Proudly Supporting Our Jackson Community in Crisis with Safe Dental Care, Clean Water & Supplies
Sunnybrook Dentistry & Braces, a Benevis kids-first family dentistry practice, stepped in to help its surrounding Jackson, MS community during a 7-week water shortage that left its residents struggling to find safe, clean water. Not only did the two Sunnybrook office locations keep their doors open, but they also invited the community in for safe drinking water and dental care.
Since safe, accessible care is paramount to the families we serve, a majority of which are on Medicaid (90%) with more limited resources and income, Sunnybrook Dentistry & Braces acted quickly to address the additional burden and needs felt by the community.
“We wanted to do our part in helping to care for the 12,000 children and families we have served in Jackson for 15 years. By providing basic hygiene supplies, financial support, and a safe place to receive basic dental care, we hope that we have provided a small amount of relief for our fellow Jacksonians,” said Bryan Carey, CEO of Benevis. “We are happy to see water service has been restored, and we look forward to many more years of service to the community.”
During the Jackson water crisis, Sunnybrook Dentistry & Braces:
- Remained open to provide safe dental care and clean water to the community using only purified distilled water from a closed bottle system and dental waterline cartridges that provided safe, compliant purification.
- Donated $2,500 to Jackson Free Clinic located on 925 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to support individuals in need.
- Donated 1,500 toothbrush kits to Jackson Free Clinic, supporting Jackson residents facing adversity due to the current water crisis.
- Provided 234 gallons of safe water for Benevis/Sunnybrook Jackson employees to take home for personal use.
