Benevis Celebrates 20 Years of Creating Happier, Healthier Smiles for Children and Families
The dental support organization continues to make a lasting impact on the oral health of millions of individuals by providing high-quality care from the heart
Atlanta, GA, January 24, 2023 — Benevis, a leading dental support organization (DSO) for practices focused on dental care and orthodontics, is honored to celebrate 20 years of expanding access to dentistry and serving approximately five million children in underserved communities with compassion and care. Since its founding in 2002, Benevis has proudly established routine dental care, treatment plans, and dental homes for children and adults during a total of 25.5 million visits in their 120 locally branded dental offices to help change the trajectory of oral health in America.
In the U.S., about half of all children do not receive regular dental care due to certain social determinants of health (SDoH). Children from vulnerable populations are at a greater risk as they have less access to oral healthcare and generally experience more dental caries, according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Benevis remains committed to breaking down these barriers to oral healthcare by expanding access to essential and affordable dental care for children and families in underserved communities, with 82% of patients currently on Medicaid or CHIP plans. For two decades, the organization has grown its presence to 13 states and the District of Columbia and worked with more than 10,500 dentists, caregivers, and teammates to better address patient needs.
“Benevis has been and continues to be a changemaker in the dental care of millions of underserved patients, with children’s smiles at the heart of our care,” explained said Bryan Carey, CEO, Benevis. “We celebrate our 20-year legacy by remaining dedicated to making a difference in dental care through our expansive reach, ease of access, and compassionate care.”
Better access to essential dental healthcare is central to the mission at Benevis. The organization advocates for programs and legislation that ensure all families have access to the oral healthcare they need and deserve. Benevis has backed policy for reimbursement rate improvements across state Medicaid plans and has seen progress in states it supports including Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, and Georgia.
“Benevis’ mission to create a world of happy, healthy smiles is evident in our work to provide high quality dental care in disadvantaged areas of the country where the need for oral health is great and provider coverage is absent,” said Dr. Dale Mayfield, DMD, chief dental officer, Benevis. “Oral care is healthcare and we’re proud to educate families and community members on how to establish good oral health practices at a young age to set the foundation for lifelong healthy habits.”
Today, Benevis proudly serves more than 600,000 children and adults during 1.2 million dental practice visits. To further reach of care, the organization has partnered with Head Start programs, schools, and Community Health Centers to deliver high-quality dental care to underserved and vulnerable patient populations. Benevis has also donated thousands of hours and treated more than 2,500 children through Sharing Smiles Day, a Benevis initiative launched in 2015 to provide a day of free dental services to kids in the greatest need of care in surrounding communities.
Benevis looks forward to 20 more years of making a difference in dental care for every child, in every community they serve. By championing dental health’s role in mental health and physical wellbeing, enabling more access to affordable and equitable dental care, and through establishing oral health education and preventive care, Benevis will continue to work to meet community needs.
